😀 after-math - embracing fear review

fancy something a lil heavy?

review number 130. damn. that's a big number! almost as big as the number of subscribers who've been signing up lately! welcome everyone, it's so good to have all of you. now let's check out some new music. this latest offering is a pretty heavy instrumental with some math rock shuffle going on. we've got synths and china cymbals and chugs oh my!

click the picture up above to give it a listen!

what i liked! :)

one thing songs like this often struggle with is intensity. when your verse or your intro start at 11, where do you go from there? this song manages to, somehow, go higher and higher every minute or so. between the introduction of new elements, changing the rhythm and just keeping it fresh, every new section to this song makes the intensity ratchet up and up and up. also, the synth element? really really great addition, and the glitchy moments on there are very cool, wish there was more of that.

what i didn’t like :(

while the synth addition is really great from a meloduc standpoint, the song lacks some of the low end rough and readiness that would've supported it. instead, we wind up with the synth really taking over and the rest of the musical elements feeling a little lackluster.

my drunk opinion :S

for fans of

there are a lot of bands that do this kind of sound quite similarly. this one does stand out tho in terms of quality, and another band that stands out in this genre has got to be sordid pink. gross music videos notwithstanding.

should you listen to more?

the ep this song is from has some hits and misses. some songs lean into different interpretations of the genre, not always with success. this song however is really sick and if on future releases they stick to this formula? then they'll be onto a winner.

more we’ve been listening to

storytelling and celtic riffs can i get a hell yeah

axis of was one of the first artists i ever saw live fun fact, and they've only gotten better with time

pillow queens proving, once again, they have the best damn vocals in the biz

that’s all from us this week! catch you in the next one xo
