😀 cross wires - drowning review
ever get that feeling?
it's time to get a little bit rowdy methinks. it's absolutely freezing so it's actually very necessary. good thing we have a jumpy indie rock song to get us on our feet a lil bit! meet cross wires and their high energy tune drowning. it's got a really pounding energy to it, couched in a host of effects that make it work as something great to get lost in while wandering down a rainy street. that's what i did anyway.

what i liked! :)
this song has a lot of chunk on the go and that's an absolutely wonderful thing. from the bass tone that feels like the bassist is playing on telegraph wires to the massive sounding drums. the sparse but vast guitar riffs decorate all of the music on display, effortlessly taking this song up and down several notches as smoothly as a drag racer flies off a ramp. of course all of that is setting the scene for a really distinctive and genuinely impactful vocal that i enjoyed a lot.
what i didn’t like :(
i feel like this song had a lot of potential to try and add a few more interesting layers into it's mix. a lot of the dieas be they riffs or fills or patterns are all rather standard fare for indie rock of this kind. a bit of innovation and experimentation would've really elevated this to another level, but alas, it is just a bit generic.
my drunk opinion :S
b movie car chase scene ass
for fans of
which way western man. do you say it sounds like indie rock and suggest a dozen bands that are broadly in that venn diagram, or. do you go over to the ~cool table~ and put on bdrmm and a cool hat. it's the latter, we're doing the latter, get in.
should you listen to more?
i stand by my criticism that this song is a bit generic because, it kinda is. but not only that, this band is capable of a lot more and when they lean into the weirder less generic strain it sounds way better. you'll find a lot more of that on their spotify which is linked below and you should listen to it because a) it's good and b) proves me right which is the most important thing really.
more we’ve been listening to

must've shared this song ages ago but it's so good im sharing it again because every time it comes on it gets a sit down full listen no questions asked.

fuzzy and groovy and really a bit weird but don't let that fool you, this is a banging track.

i didn't know i needed an extended version of this, but i have one now, and you know what? i'm not going back
