😀 eighty ninety - heart on the line review

can a slide guitar sound *not* country?

it is cold! goddamn :( idk about you all but i much prefer the summer to the winter. thank you vitamin d tablets keeping the brain all ticking over cus otherwise this would've been a bad time. on the bright side, we can enjoy some good music and hot coco! and this is the song for that. sorry, that's super cheugy, im trying to square a round peg or whatever it is where im freezing cold and this song is super chill, quiet and easy going. this week, we're listening to heart on the line by eighty ninety.

click the picture up above to give it a listen!

what i liked! :)

this song is very gentle. that's what i thought of most, between the softly produced finger plucked guitar, the whisper quiet vocalist, the distant synths that blend with an ever-so-slightly-over-reverbed vocal track, it's all as soft as that weird marshmallow spread stuff that tastes so good and gives you enough of a sugar rush to see three weeks ahead in time.

what i didn’t like :(

sorry okay, it's the slide guitar. it just doesn't work here, it really doesn't. like slide guitar can be really good when used properly, but it's so jarring and rogue but not in any kind of 'come on slidey here's your time to shine' it's more oh hey slide guitar guy has turned up, we'll keep playing and maybe he'll leave us alone.

my drunk opinion :S

someones gonna put this song over a video of like a liminal space of a small town int he midwest of the us where it's like night time with street lights and etc and it's gonna blow up on tik tok ust you wait

for fans of

this song fits neatly into a thick vein of sad boy with guitar music, and there's a lot to choose from to draw a comparison with. for this review tho im going with bored! by 19&you

should you listen to more?

gonna be honest here, as i often am, and say this song, while being pretty good, was probably one of the weaker songs from this artist. reason i say that is there's actually some really good stuff on display here. they have some real song writing chops and production values so it's all certainly worth checking out!

more we’ve been listening to
