tarantula! tarantula! tarantula!

happy halloween! or, well, when im writing this it is anyway, which is a magic and incredible time of year imo. life can zip by in a flash if you let it but it's the little moments when everyone gets together and gets a little silly that make it all worth it. and frankly, halloween is definitely in the top 3 silly holidays. behind pancake tuesday and the superbowl. anyway, to the trick or treaters, costume wearers and grisly ghoulish gang, this special halloween edition of a single song review is for you. this week, our song is about the scariest thing in the world; spiders! it's tarantula, by gus englehorn.

what i liked! :)
i am a bif proponent of songs about animals where the lyrics are largely just the name of that animal over and over, and i am very proud to put this song alongside rattlesnake by king gizz as a banger. it is, it must be said, actually really good. the way it builds in intensity slowly but then surprisingly all at once is frankly brilliant. the shy guitar riffs and lazy drum beats provide the perfect backdrop for the quirky vocal work. then of course, you've got the shock delivery of the strings and soaring vocals coming out of absolutely nowhere and laying this song up on an incredible emotional apex. god bless this bizarre little song about tarantula's.
what i didn’t like :(
i want this song to take the ideas of the strings, and just run with it. i want a full on 2 minute orchestral outro that just goes from this bizarre gruny character into something sublime. but it doesn't do that because that woudl be weird. it sticks with tarantula's because it knows that's where the banger lies.
my drunk opinion :S
taran tulaaaaaaaauuaaauuaaauuaaauuaauuaa
for fans of
honestly this is very mewithoutyou territory. combining seemingly nonsense lyrics with wild and incredible musicality is something i wish more artists would do.
should you listen to more?
this guy is awesome. every song is bizarre and incredibly fun, with so much personality i love it. check it out!
more we’ve been listening to

just an angry indie song and sometimes, that's just what you need on a tuesday

bring back their dog :(

it's groovy and moody and a little bit rude-y
