😄 jean dawson - pirate radio*

ready to feel something?

got a real banger for you this week. we’re not even gonna mess around with a preamble cus this song is just banging and i want to get into it. pirate radio* grabbed the hairs on the back of my neck with it’s detailed and vast acoustic sound that easily teases incredible sound, before delivering with one of the most awesome outros to a song i’ve heard in a while. grab your fiddle, whipe your eyes and let’s dive in to pirate radio by jean dawson.

there is so much to like about this song. first things first, the level of detail on display throughout is just incredible. from the finger plucked guitars with delicate riffs to the tiny details like the cassette tape click between intro and verse. the way this song layers in rather unexpected ideas and instruments with a deft touch should be studied, you might not expect the vast barrumph from the cello, but it delivers itself with confidence. and all of that is only leading up to the main events of course. the vast sound of the drums that come out of nowhere to give this song the feeling of standing on a cliff being blasted by the wind. the strings then take this song to another height entirely with the aforementioned outro riff furiously burning itself into your mind.

i am simply sad that there is not more of this song to go around.

aww man i am feelinggggg i am feelinggggg thingssssss

so, it does sound a bit bon iver doesn’t it. it really does, but like? way better? way better. also this bon iver song is from the one of the twilight movies soundtrack which i genuinely did not know until now, so there you go.

how this artist is only at 800k monthly listeners i will never know because they have got to blow up. so much good music on display, a lot of genre bending and a lot of energy going into every track. big recommend.

ahhhh lankum, moody irish folk with wild melancholic storytelling. inject it straight into my soul yes please.

when a song has those teasing lil toms through it’s verse you know it’s gonna get a lil silly. bet you don’t expect it to take a turn for the heartfelt.

some of the finest vocals i’ve heard in a while and what a song to show it off in.

that’s all from us this week! see you in the next one xo
