😀 joy again - what lovers do review

ensive and extensive synthy love letter, but will you love it?

hello this weeks review is written from underneath 1400 layers of blankets because brr! brr brr brr and brr again! tell you what'll warm you up tho, this weeks song! it's a sweet and, honestly, i mean it when i say, pensive track. idk why this band has so many people in it, but they're all up to something! this week, what lovers do by joy again is our song. click the play button up above and we'll check it out!

what i liked! :)

the soundscaping in this song is really something, between the gently pulsing synth to the swelling fuzzy notes and tentative use of drums really come together in this. even as a tease as they do in the verses, this song is felt as much as it is heard. the production on this track doesn't let the side down either. with all of the fantastic mixing and mastering on display, it'd have been so easy for this song to be a muddy mess with so many textures, but it isn't! it's all crystal clear, easy to parse and gently mixed like a good porridge.

what i didn’t like :(

honestly not a huge fan of the vocal track on this, which is a lot. like, a lot of the song is the vocal track. i think i know why, for all the stylised and really expert instrumentation on display, virtually none of that is present in the vocal. even when the vocal is treated beyond just a straight recording such as when the dual vocals come in, nothing is stylised. it's just a straight duplication of the existing track. as a consequence, all of the vocals sound a bit dull compared to the great instrumentation.

my drunk opinion :S

okay tbf, at a big gig this'd be sick

for fans of

so the great soundscaping and attention to detail in this song makes me think of caribou, although caribous songs are typically a bit more boppin than this, they do have some chill ones.

should you listen to more?

okay this is a weird one, because 1 this artist is one you've probably heard before because one of their earlier songs went massively viral on tik tok. 2, this artist has completely changed their sound from what i can hear. i've probaly missed something on that, but a lot of their older stuff has lots of acoustic-y indie vibes and this is more electronic. that said, the really good attention to detail and very affectatious song writing remains, so if you like those elements check it out!
