sorry was meant to write this weeks review but i've been watching sex education. just kidding. im multitasking because this weeks song is relevant! and also this show is really good. that's not intentional actually, i kinda just noticed that huh. well, just like the netflix show this weeks song has high production values, a lot more depth than meets the eye and even if it's not your kind of thing maybe you should check it out. this weeks song is sex for breakfast, as in that's what it's called, and it's by mike taveira featuring allie x.

what i liked! :)

the feature on this song is really really good. features are a tricky beast right, like it's so easy to just hire phoebe bridgers (no hate, love you phoebe if u read this tweet @ me) to do a verse and a bit and it's cool and everything, but it's another thing entirely in this song. the way the vocalists duel off each other and work together to elevate the song is really really excellent. that's not to say the rest of the song is weak either, the faint vocal for the hook is really inspired.

what i didn’t like :(

so, i know i just really praised the feature in this, but i have a criticism of that feature which is i want more. i don't want this to be a feature, i want it to be a band because god damn they work so well together. perhaps more seriously a criticism i do have is for the production. this song is very well produced, almost painfully so, but it also feels like it lacks a real impact. like the sound particularly in the chorus is massive, but not very impactful.

this sounds like troye sivans big brother, if he has a big brother, i've no idea and i won't be looking it up :)

should you listen to more?

okay im actually gonna go no on this one. this song is really strong, the dual vocals in particular as i said. thing is, the rest of this artists stuff is like more of the same but without anything interesting. i guess that's the gig tho right, doing dancey - pop is a real tricky beast cus the line between great and mediocre is so fine whereas other genres you can get away with more. that all said, this song is a banger. so check them out and see if you agree with me ;)
