😀 mild horses - suited review

ready to dream big?

genre: shoegaze /// electronic

hey we made it! told you jumping through that portal would be good for us, look at our cool new hair. what am i talking about? no idea. seemed like a good idea at the time. was kind of in a contrived dream sequence to pad out the run time and can you guess what was playing on the speakers? an awfully dreamy shoegaze bop, which is this weeks song! we're checking out suited by mild horses, so grab your shoes and your hat and click that play button to be whisked away!

what i liked! :)

so as i said this song is dreamy, and it's really ticking all the boxes of the genre that someone like me (a loser) can just dive right into. it has that off kilter relaxed but edgy quality to it. adding into that mix you've got some pretty decent gang vocals that do a good job at times of bringing the washed out aesthetic to life. throw a few neat touches of tremolo in there and you're onto a winner!

what i didn’t like :(

perhaps this is a self report on the kind of music i prefer but i thought the drums in this were lackluster. the neat rhythm on the ride bell is fun, but i couldn't feel any kick or lower tones coming through which left a lot of the song feeling very mid dominated. that's fine for the most part and does impart that dreamlike quality, but some oomph wouldn't have gone amiss.

my drunk opinion :S

it's raining it's pouring the old man is dissociating to the rain while this has been playing on loop for 45 minutes

for fans of

this song is a really great example of the genre, it doesn't shake things up much but it doesn't really need to, it does a great job. therefore, im gonna go with the world is a beautiful place & i am no longer afraid to die as a comparison, purely for the gang vocals.

should you listen to more?

the album this song comes from is actually really good. get yourself a copy on their bandcamp if you are brave because the rest of the songs like to experiment with the format a fair bit, and a lot of it lands!
