hello i am writing this while sweating like madddddd because it’s hot that’s september baby so excuse if this weeks review is a lil more manic than usual, on account of it being too hot for lil ol me. anywho, this weeks song absolutely rules and if you disagree you are wrong, sorry honey, that’s the game. we are back on the metal train this week, with more campy goodness from japan. those of you who checked out my primavera sound write up will know i absolutely love a high energy moment and that’s what we’ve got this week. meet momoiro clover z and their track mononofu nippon, it rules.

what i liked! :)
jesus where do you start. this thing is high energy and crazy from the jump, with gang vocals, sing a long moments, face melting riffs, massive drums and just so much fun. i loveeee how every vocalist on this is easily distinguishable and giving it stacks. they’ve all got tons of personality and killer voices that they deliver some massive performances. this song is also just straight up unafraid to do a wild little moment like a pre-chorus breakdown, a piano sweep or two and really i cannot stress this enough. it is riff central. the main riff? quick and brisk, the chorus riffs? galant and massive, the breakdowns? heavy as hell. seriously this song is a real tour de force. oh while we’re here? the production value of the video is just nuts, straight up it’s wild.
what i didn’t like :(
i think my main criticism of this song is it doesn’t quite lean into what it’s playing with as it could, and i encourage them to go further. for example, the relatively frequent breakdowns have some gnarly drums and riffs, which no doubt live will sound brain melting, but on the recording the fact that it’s happening does more for the song than how it sounds if you know what i mean. basically, they could’ve gone harder and i wish they did.

dude this band rules, they’re so good. their main single is like so high energy and bopping i adore it, whatever it’s called cus idk how to translate spotify.
