Mudmouth, a lo-fi hip hop artist, has released a new song called "Digging for Dreams." The song is a positive and uplifting track with a message of hope.

got a really cool song for you this week, and you know what? it’s something we don’t often have on this lil newsletter; a positive song. it’s got some real nice, positive energy and i think that’s real neat! meet mudmouth, hip hop artist, owner of a nice hat, and this weeks artist on the free one. their song digging for dreams is a lovely lo-fi hip hop affair that i’ve been enjoying and i think you will too.

so as i said, lyrically speaking this song is lovely. it’s got a great positive energy, some really good lessons going on in the chorus, but it also has some great storytelling imo. the flow of this vocalist isn’t so fast it become impenetrable, and honestly the performance fits right within the laid back and gentle beat. i also like how the beat itself doesn’t become lost or loose, it’s got a pretty solid set of melodic ideas that take just long enough to cycle that you can feel them without getting oppressive. the layering in of the additional bits of vinyl cutting just to give it an extra bit of detail and you’re onto a winner.

my favourite versions of this genre are those that don’t go lightly on the extra bits of detail and noise that gel together a track. things like vinyl crackle, even like world noise e.g. streets, rain, people talking etc do so much to make lo fi not just something you hear but well and truly feel. if this artist was to lean in to that soundscape idea a bit harder you’d be looking at something with an order of magnitude more vibe.

honestly man what is the best thing to be

so i’m not just posting this because ezra collective won the mercury prize and i’m so gassed for them because they absolutely rule. but this is a great version of what i’m saying where you have a song and artist that leans as hard as possible into the vibe of what they’re doing, as well as being just aboslutely killer artists. definitely an artist that if they’re not an inspiration they absolutely should be with their song what am i to do?

we got a live one! yup you guessed it, this is an artist with like no other songs, yet. it’s been a while actually since we had one of these that a) legit doesn’t have much else out, and b) is pretty banging so as soon as they do i will be all over that and you should be too.
