😀 polartropica - give them hell (serial killer style) review
anyone for bedroom grunge?
so this review serves a dual purpose. a few weeks ago, we put a call out for artists to feature in our bandcamp friday special, and several of those artists had some really great tracks! which is why some of the songs lately you might've heard, we figured some were good enough to dive into. this is the last of those tho, we're back to the songs submitted by readers next week (link above wink)
buttttttttttt we also have another bandcamp friday coming up this friday! and we may do a special, if we can get some submissions, so if you are an artist/know an artist that want some free promo then send bandcamp link, press photo and a sentance about you to hi (at) asinglesongreview.com!
anywho, that's out the way let's get to this weeks song. garage pop punk track give them hell (serial killer slayer) from polartropica! it's a fun high energy wee banger.
click the picture up above to give it a listen!
what i liked! :)
the synth/guitar line right at the start of this track is an absolute dream of a riff. it has that dual ability to excite you and also structure the song, building for the next section in a very clearly readable way. the treated vocal work here is really good, giving the song lots of style and character. throw in the wildly noodly guitar details and the fun lyricism mean this is really a great high energy romp.
what i didn’t like :(
for all the strength of the vocals, i gotta say when the singer strays from singing with clear melody and strays into a more shouting style, the song is at it's weakest. when the singer is either talking like in the bridge or singing with melody like at the start of the verses, the song is great. the in between sections aren't so great.
my drunk opinion :S
this song is very grrrrrrr and it's great
for fans of
i love love love this kind of bedroom pop punk///grunge-y sound, and there's some great examples to compare to. some personal faves include the linda linda's, the beaches and los bitchos
should you listen to more?
this is a really cool artist! i really love their aesthetics and the effort they put into their music videos so linking their youtube at the button below. some of their songs aren't as high energy as this one of course, but there's some great talent on the go and so i think this artist could be pretty huge.
more we’ve been listening to
just gorgeous piano work
this song is crazy and so, so banging with cool story telling
really haunting, pretty and dreamlike with brilliant guitar work
