😀 silktape - stride review

who needs a good old fashioned breakdown?

ahhhh it's good to be back. hope you all enjoyed our lil bandcamp special! now, let's get onto what we're famous for; reviews! welcome to review no 128, where we're looking at an a single song review alumni! a while ago, we checked out an absolute banger of an act by the name of belles. well, they're back again with a new name, some black and white photos and a banger of an indie punk song for you.

click the picture up above to give it a listen!

what i liked! :)

it's honestly been so long since i've heard a decent guitar based breakdown in a song i seriously felt 14 again. and the one in display in this song? handled with care like any high explosives should be. between the shouting gang vocals, groovy riff and drum fills drum fills this was a lot of fun. it also did one of my favourite things with a breakdown which is smoothly change the rhythm from a choppy beat to a smooth one, which gets me every time. there's a lot more besides that to love about this too. the choked and shouted vocals lend a really personal touch to this and the giant grungy tones of the bass and guitar leave this song thick and heavy.

what i didn’t like :(

wasn't a huge fan of the semi-aborted guitar solo towards the end. i feel like a moment for that was set up beautifully and i would've absolutely been keen for it had they committed to the bit and done a full on guitar solo rather than a few bends before the song ended.

my drunk opinion :S

idk about you but im feeling p 14 years old w this song and im getting moody

for fans of

there are, of course, a bunch of artists that sound like this but there's one in particular i've been trying to find and can you believe, i just can't. they're a scottish indie punk band that im almost certain changed their name. anywho, if anyone has any geusses then reply to this email and we'll figure it out together.

should you listen to more?

like we said earlier, this artist is an alumni and while we loved their older work, this song is an excellent step in a new direction. they're really solidified their sound and given a bit more time they'll have a much stronger sense of who they are. once they hit that point? they'll be off to the races.

more we’ve been listening to
