the lion does not concern herself with the rabbit, because that rabbit is fucking crazy dude do notttt mess with him. he’s got these grooves going, it’s all moody, there’s a wailing guitar in a metal box, and it rules. crazy, but it rules.
this artist uses the spotify canvas thing the best i’ve ever seen, also the music is really good
another one for the ‘song so good you’d swear you’ve heard it before but it only came out recently isn’t that weird’ pile

for those of you keeping up at home, this is a catchup episode, i.e. the review i was going to write two weeks ago but i didn’t, because i was in berlin enjoying berlin things! short and sweet, but definitely not neat and tidy, we’ve got a liltte riot in a bottle here for us all to enjoy. a heavy number courtesy of yours truly, by which i of course mean submitted by a subscriber. shout out to toy parlour, and their track dead inside. this weeks banger, let’s get to it.
this track does a lot of things exceedingly well in a blistering 2 minutes and 36 seconds. i actually thought it was longer, but no, can confirm, that’s the runtime. from the oh so dramatic vocal work to the achingly tight groove, there’s a lot of goodness in here. let’s start with that vocal performance, because man, that is a singer who has something to say. it’s got tone, it’s got presence, but you know what it has in spades? personality. and that’s what i love. even if it wasn’t so perfectly on point with performance, i’d be so in the pocket of this anyway. the fact there’s not a fraction of a second that isn’t as perfectly delivered as it is dripping in energy tells you this is someone who knows what they’re doing. they’re not on their own either, the rest of this band are on top form here. those grooves i mentioned, they do not let up for one second and you get the feeling that the performers are just raring to go as each section bursts into life like it’s been trying to get out. finally, there’s my favourite bit, the bit i’m terming ‘the bit where it gets fast’ which is a bit where the tempo goes from kinda mid tempo to really fast for a bit. always a fan of that, always keen to hear it, always on board when it happens.
i think this song is a 9 out of 10, which is to say, it rocks. there is one thing it does miss on however, and it’s actually a bit of a pity it does because if it hit this it’d land that extra point in my book. the overall feel of the song is just not quite in it’s own league and that’s a missed opportunity. by that i mean, there isn’t a huge amount of stylisation to differentiate this track from others in the sub genre. there are a lot of tracks that sound like this, and this is a top tier example. what’s more there are moments of real creativity and stylisation on the vocals in particular. it’s just lacking that final push into it’s own league with some level of affectation and tone to make that feel feel unique.
i’ve been in 2 mosh pits in the last 2 weeks, and i’d like to be in a third when this band plays the bit where it goes faster
like i said up above, there are a lot of bands that sound like this, so i thought it would be fun to pick out one that hits that stylisation note that bit better, and also i haven’t heard in ages. me personally i’m thinking of the bold and beautiful death from above 1979
this band is on a hell of a run at the moment. there have been 2 other tracks dropped from whatever release this is going to be a part of, and they slap. big songs, big grooves and beats, and it’s all really really cool. god bless, check ‘em out because there’s a lot to like and i’m hoping more down the pipe.
or better yet, reply to this email! what did you think of this song? have you been listening to anything good lately? any gems i’ve missed?
