more i’ve been listening to
sort of like getting flirted with by a computer who has a fair amount of rizz and yearning
like an acoustic version of a normal song that’s better than the normal song so much so they got rid of it and replaced it with this one instead
i know i know i know, i’m late on the alvvays train, one of the best albums ever written, etc. sue me, i’m boppin here

good morning and rise and shine sleepyheads. yes all of you get up, i see you, laying lazily in your beds. i figured this week we’d take it down a notch and boy did the database provide. a banger of a tune with rich lo fi beats, lyricism to boot and a world of sonic goodness that you need in your life. meet any lightfoot, an incredibly named artist bringing incredible music to the table. this is their latest offering, a brand new song called new sunshine, hot off the presses.
there’s so much going on in this track, but the 4 minutes odd of it’s runtime don’t feel it at all. it does such a great job of keeping you guessing and engaged that by the time youyou realise you’ve been through a ton of different worlds sonicly speaking, you’re all through it. kind of like going through a lazy river. the wash of delayed and affected guitar do such a good job of building up that sonic world. providing the perfect background for the droney synth to hang out and do it’s thing. it helps a lot that this track really knows how to play with what it reveals and what it keeps in reserve. when this all comes together for the outro final minute or so, it really hits. the fact that so many of the elements we’ve been getting used to lull you into an almost false sense of security for a moment that hits emotionally precisely because it’s been set up so well. it’s a moment that really stuck with me more so than songs typically do, i had a bit of chills when i heard it, and that’s my theory as to why.
only thing i will say about this track in the negative, is i think it’s just a little bit prestine. the sounds and tones and delivery of so much of it is so so so good i almost hear too much of it. what that results is a sound that feels slightly bitty and lacking in warmth. with an ever so slight digital edge to it that i don’t think serves the song writing. i think if this could be obfuscated a touch, washed into each other a bit and mixed down into something with less production value it would work a lot better.
kinda needed to hear that bit ngl
this had me thinking a lottttt of antony sziermeck who is an artist who i mainlined for like, 4 weeks solid and then didn’t listen to for 2 years only to go back and be like oh yeah, still absolutely immaculate
i really like this artist i think there’s a lot going on here to be proud of. i’m even more keen however to see where they go because there’s a lot of talent on display here, and some good tracks in the back cat. but this track feels like a step up which i always love to see. if this is the direction they’re going in then long may it rain because it feels good to me!
