and now for something completely different delivered to us from on high, specifically, from the great big database of songs people have sent in. keep ‘em coming please, it’s great to have you all, and it’s great to discover music this way. this piece of music for example, is just what i needed. i’ve been walking quite a bit for a whole done of reasons, and having something i can just lose myself in for a few minutes as i walk the bus stops in the middle of the night in the freezing rain is just what the doctor ordered. he’s a weird doctor, but dammit, he gets results. anyway, meet bonds, instrumental, a bit folky, a bit odd, but a lot lovely, with their song, not like this.
this song is utterly driving even from it’s very first beat. that gentle but ever present kick drum and percussion set up is so effective at giving the whoel track a sense of energy even at moments where almost nothing is playing. details like the washed cymbals or the reversed piano sounds that ring on just a moment longer than you thought they might. it’s all to play for here and it’s all done so so well. when the main melody kicks in, it does so into a world that’s entirely of the bands making. the shuffled snare and loose hanging chords are so present and powerful allowing the haunting warbling synth line to hang in space supported by a structure that knows exactly what to do. finally the last thing i loved about this, is the sense of direction a piece of music with no formal structure has. at no point does anything feel like it drags or outstays it’s welcome, it’s all developed gently and with a sense of purpose.
i’m actually coming up blank here if i’m honest. this song is really great and i really enjoyed it, so there we are.
you’re not meant to stack rocks like that it’s dangerous for animals
it’s not a great comparison i’ll grant you, but it is where i ended up after listening to this song several times this evening. and that’s in the warm cosy arms of mk.gee’s riffin and settin the scene. i do think they’re in roughly the same sphere, so i’ll take it.
the very next song on the release from this one is called like this and it rolls from this one to that seamlessly. immaculate work, top tier and tells me everything i need to know, send it everyone. it’s fantsatic.
or better yet, reply to this email! what did you think of this song? have you been listening to anything good lately? any gems i’ve missed?
