😀 charlie smith - reap what you sow review

ever been by a campfire?

howdy! it feels like if i say that, i sohuld be wearing a cowboy hat but alas, i have not got one on. what i do have for you however is a super chill, and really cool song that if you were to be sitting by a fire, looking up on a beautiful night sky with the distant sound of crickets and the crackle of a nearby camp fire. in case you can't tell, it's starting to get cold here and i'm missing summer and keeping warm by wishing to be somewhere like that. anyway, reap what you sow is this weeks song by one charlie smith, it's a super stripped back acoustic track blitzing in at a lil over 2 minutes.

what i liked! :)

the hurried and almost incorrect feeling to the main riff give this song such an honest and personable feel. this isn't a polished and particular track, and it's not trying to be. this is the kind of tack that has it's heart on it's sleeve and somerthing important to say, and it's not letting anything get in the way. that's immediately apparent from the first bars, and not let up throughout the runtime. even that in itself is something honest about this track, it's barely over 2 minutes long because it comes to say what it has to say and that's it. on top of all of that, the characterised and personal vocals and lyrics are hauntingly beautiful. on top of all of that, the recording quality and production here are perfect. i felt like i was sitting beside this person when i listened to it and it was great.

what i didn’t like :(

i really think this song would've been in banger territory if it had some kind of gentle hook to just get in your head. in a way, im glad it didn't have that, it's a lot more genuine because of it for sure. but i think if it would've leant into a slightly poppy edge this song would've blown up. maybe it still will, it certainly deserves to.

my drunk opinion :S

the album art for this song makes me sad in a way i can't quite describe but don't want to let go of.

for fans of

this song actually really reminded me of one of my favourite artists as a kid, big man damien rice, fun fact! i couldn't remember his name i could just remember he was mentioned in an ed sheeran song, so i had to go listen to that to figure it out. never say i don't suffer for the arts.

should you listen to more?

110% yes absolutely, this artist has some heartfelt and beautiful tunes, especially from this ep, that are well worth a listen if you're in the mood. just remember what we said at the start, imagine you're in the desert and enjoying this by a campfire.

more we’ve been listening to

bumpy and funky and a lot of fun, with some really cute melodies and great piano work. instrumentals take note!
