hello everyone, this review comes to you from someone who has been to their very first ever village fete, which is not something i’d ever heard of before. it’s like a fair / party thing that was happening in my friends village and it was super fun! that has nothing to do with this weeks review, but i wanted to let you know because i had a great time, and i hope you are too. we’re keeping up our little post-hardcore kick here with another stormy lil number, complete with tons of riffs, big banging drums and lots and lots of angst. meet contour, a band from canada. what is it over there they have to be so mad about? who knows! but they’re expressing it, and submitting it, and it all sounds banging.

without intending to i don’t think, this song has managed to be incredibly catchy. i don’t think it’s a fluke, there’s a lot of really tight and well written melody being used here, but i don’t tihnk it’s a particular focus for a song like this. neverheless, i’ve found myself whistling the tune of this song quite a bit over the last day or so. it’s catchy, and that’s a great thing for any song. also the intro for this is very clever, giving us a little moment of low energy and relaxation, before boom we’re in baby. it does a great job of contrasting the tones and making the heights seem higher by giving you a good feel for the lows.

this is also one of the better executions of what someone i worked with once called post-hardcore whine, which is pretty accurate imo. this is a really good version, it’s something that you can easily do too much of, but these guys have nailed it. i also really like the almost waltz rhythmn scheme going on here. the way the riffs and groove work, it makes the song feel like it’s in a 6/8 pattern that turns it from something head banging and heavy into something a little lighter and more whimsical.

i’m gonna say it and i’m sorry. it’s the snare. i know, i know, that snare sound has been around for ages, and is in fact a thing, and it’s something that bands use. it’s somthing that this band, in fact, use to great effect later in the song. it helps the snare cut through and wash into the wider cymbal noise, giving the drums a lot more bite and presence. i get it! that said, when it came in in that intro, i nearly turned off because i was like no thank u, i do not like this sound.

can you hear that mate that’s the, that’s the song , wrote it out so i did

i actually really love the bouncey rhythmn and groove to this, and the more i listen to it the more i think this needs a comparison to someone doing something similar. thankfully, i have just the song. ambulance by and so i watch you from afar, who if you’ve never listened to, are so good.

this band are really cool! they’ve a good thing going on, and i think they’re probably here to stay quite frankly. they’re really early in their career i think, but the songwriting going on here, and the production to back it up is genuinely top notch. i think once they start to push the boat out from the standard post hardcore stuff and get a little weird with it you could see them break out big time. in the meantime, we’ve got some really banging songs here to enjoy, and that’s what we’re gonna do.

emory / tooth there is such a thing as too many bleepity bloops, i’m sure of it. damn if we’ve managed to find it, but this song is a good effort at finding where the line is. they didn’t succeed however, because this song rips.
