😀 the cope - end of time review

want to hear something wild?

here's a fun little story for you, when i was writing my dissertation, i came across a quote from a belfast dj talking about how when the troubles ended, one of the main drivers of the peace was mdma getting into belfast. this, i thought, was an outrageous but really funny thing to include in a dissertation, so try as i might i searched far and wide for evidence to back it up. colour me shocked to find that there actually was a ton of evidence for it, and actually, even the houses of parliament agreed! anyway, i thoguht that was just a fun lil story to kick off this years review because here we have some fresh talent from the irish dance and electronic scene who are well worth your while. meet the cope, and their song end of time.

what i liked! :)

this is a song that feels as melancholic as it does absolutely massive. the gentle whispered vocal atop the aggressive buzz siren getting lost within the pads give the impression of machinery in a huge concrete space. add onto that the pounding and aggressive groove of the beat alongside the syncopated aforementioned pads and you're onto a winner. returning to that vocal work, it's really weird how much of this is like oddly catchy. it's kinda hard to fully parse the vocals as there's a little bit of mumbling going on but that only leads to the listener imprinting their own lyrics onto the melody somewhat, translating to the melody just landing in your head and not letting go.

what i didn’t like :(

i think if this song had a few more percussive elements that it would've tied together a bit more. at the minute the elements on display are really good, but they feel a tad disjointed. add in a bit more detailing greablies and you'd be there.

my drunk opinion :S

yeah man y'know, that's what it's like isn't it, fuckin joke man, fuckin joke like, ya see the way they do that too, joke like

for fans of

not to go all 'hey i know another irish electronic artist' but the bicep energy is strong here.

should you listen to more?

yes you should, in fact you should be checking out the astonishingly pretty short film this artist has produced with their ep. it's a several part slice up of a much longer short film, all shot beautifully and telling a rather heartbreaking story. i highly recommend it.

more we’ve been listening to

dude this song has some of the grooviest and heaviest sax shoegaze i've heard in agesssssss if anyone knows any artists like this please send them my way!

this has that dreamy indie style that is so all the rage these days, and has been for decades

the shuffle snare and massive groove on this are such a treat for this banging little tune.

that’s all from us this week! catch you in the next one xo
