i have to do it. i have to get this song off my brain. it’s so good, but oh man has it been in my head. in fact, no, you know what, don’t listen to it. or, do in the right environment okay. get your headphones, maybe a cool jacket and a good outfit. and gooooo out for a lil stroll. ideally, in a large kind of crowded place, and just feel this one out. loud, ideally, i think. but fair warning, it’s , so so catchy. enjoy this weeks track, pqc by daine.

what i like

i sort of absolutely adore the intro to this song. it has so little bearing to the main meat of the song. but yet, as an idea and a series of ideas, they’re developed out so well. the piano chords echoing out the chord progression that later on is voiced via arpeggios. the trip hop beat on the fuzzy drums. it’s so so good. and when that intro comes back around in the verses for a lil refresh? very good, very clever. love the execution but more, i really love the use of tone. a twinkling little piano and a blown out rhythmn section with something to prove? very cool. then, of course, that chorus. that sweet sweet chorus. it’s so good, it’s so clever too. you’ll often see me on here complaining about this act or that not having the right level of hook in their songs.

that’s a complaint i stand by big time, because it can make or break a listen on something. now this is definitely a more extreme example in the other direction, and by no means is a hook a necessity. but so many songs have ideas and explorations every bit as clever and interesting as this, or indeed miles and miles more so. but i don’t really want to listen to them. because as much as the crunch and the weird and the interesting get me, i also want something to sing along to. i want a bit of sugar in my coffee or whatever. this song is more sugar than anything else, but man do i love sugar. tortured metaphor sorry. anyway, when the chorus comes in on the exit of the bridge it really hits. using the vocal to launch into the outro like that is a great way to stitch a song together and make two rather disparate sections land.

what i don’t like

i did feel like the bridge was a bit weak in this i won’t lie. there’s quite a bit of vocal work that didn’t feel as powerful as the rest and the song just kind of stopped for a bit. had a break, toook a sit down that kind of thing.

my drunk opinion

my drunk opinion

this song had me thinking a lotttt about hannah diamond, who i adore, and her song affirmations, which i adore. defo one for that main character syndrome moment in a crowd of people i mentioned earlier. a track 2 if you will, or a track 1, depending on how you feel. you decide, you’re the boss.

so i actually do adore this artist. i first heard them on that ninajirachi album from last year that one shotted my life to hell and back. it’s such a good album and this artists performance there slapped. but honestly it pales in comparison to the rest of her catalogue, which is saying something both about that back catalogue and that ninajirachi album.
