got a real sweet lil song for you this week. and from a superrrr underground artist too, which is ticking a lot of boxes for this lil newsletter. it’s got a ton of great flair and song writing chops, while remaining a really sweet song. this is find me in new york by an artist called diego, and it’s brought to you by the absolute banger factory that is the submitted songs list. got a song you want featured? get submitting! and in the meantime,

when this artist throws their voice around and their little flairs with instrumentation, it’s done with a genuine sense of joy and poise that i haven’t heard in a long time. the riffs and intonation are really deftly handled and the gentle moments where a single note from a guitar can just elevate what this is doing are really interesting. there’s a fair bit of intricate work going on in this, and it’s really well handled. using the finger plucked guitar as a base and layering in all of the rest of the isntrumentation to work to that works really well here, even up to the great heights of the strings. the held piano notes are really well mixed too, gifting this just enough warmth and texture to carry it but sticking to the minimalist tone.

this song doesn’t quite know what to do with itself when it builds. whether it’s the drums coming in or the various vocal moments, there are a few times where this song has managed to lay itself up to something new, and then fumbles each time. it’s like they don’t know how to write something that has that bit of oomph and energy about it, but know how to do everything else and it lets the song down quite substantially.

this song is giving early 00’s rom com where the main couple have fallen out and are at their low ebb but one of them is like, lost in a jungle or somthing and the other one is like gee if only they were here ah well i guess they’ve dumped me but they’re like, running from a jaguar or something and it’s a real silly contrast. and it’s set to this song. i’m picturing it now.

this is firmly in main line pop girlie territory, without the girlie, but plenty of everything else. it’s got the drama, the story telling, even the tone of the vocals and the delivery. as i mentioned earlier though, it lacks any real moment of summit or apex for the level of drama that those songs can often aspire to.

there’s some good stuff here for sure. it’s a litttllleeee bit more amateurish than this, i think this track is a much more mature step in the right direction, but the vocalists voice is killer and the song writing is similarly great, so if you like this you’ll find something you like.

more i’ve been listening to

new music from money lang with their song dreams, a deep house remix that will leave you vibing along to it's strange high energy beats

this is one of those out of nowhere remixes that’s so obscure but it works so god damn well you’re gonna be going to parties putting it on and everyones like what the hell is this and you put a finger on their mouth and whisper ‘trust me’ and they do and they love it. it’s just like that, really, i promise.

new msic from nusantara beasrt / djanger with this has as much personality as it has fun instruments which is to say absolutely tons. layer on there a bit of melody that’s catchy and quirky and one of those wooden frogs where you rub its back with a stick and you’re off to the races.
