i gotta tell you gang, having a little database of some of the finest underground music in the world just here at my fingertips is amazing because every week i’m listening through everytihng and bammo. there comes another banger. a bop. an absolute dream. a song that grabs me by the nostrils and takes me to the cleaners. it’s amazing and you know what? so is this track. meet din skarr, a hip hop artist i know literally nothing about other than they dropped this track, it’s rad as hell and i’m all over it. you should be to, so what are you waiting for.
i’ve talked about this before and i’ll talk about it again and i’ll do it right now. this song is an incredible example of tension being used with a deft touch. the build that the intro of this song consists of is so well done and built out. the aggressive synths and 808s working the sound to get the song from a place of standing still to absolutely flying. all this while the vocalist is just giving an absolute masterclass in flow. let me tell you my jaw dropped to the floor when they launched into that main verse on the drop. i think the thing about it is it comes in off a build where the tempo of flow is ratchetting up and up before the drop. when that drop comes, it falls out from under the floor of the track but that vocal performance does not drop in any way. in fact, it keeps on rolling at full speed giving it absolute stacks. it’s such a masterful piece and it absolutely rules. what really makes it work tho is it comes in after the intro. by the time you get to that big old drop, you’ve already had a nice little time of contrast and restraint, where the song was honestly quite chill. when that drop hits however, it does so against a backdrop of extreme contrast and that takes it to new heights.
my only thing with this track is it feels a little bit like it doesn’t know what to do with itself after it’s shot it’s shot. you’ve had a run that really is an all timer, and then once the song gets to the latter quarter, it doesn’t have anywhere else to do. there are no real hooks or closing moments so it kinda peters out a little bit.
songs like this make me want to get into car racing and take up smoking
listening to this song reminded me of this clipping album which i haven’t listened to for agessssss but you may remember me obsessing over a few years ago because of how gosh darn good it is. good time.
this, my friends, is a debut, and what a debut. man, if this song is the start of something then i want to see where it goes becuae oh my god. also, i really love this artists mistique. if they can build up a profile while keeping their cards close to their chest then they could really establish something with some weapons grade pull. if you’re reading din skarr, thank you for subscribing and keep up the good work, godspeed.
