š english teacher / nearly daffodils review
sorry we're late!
hey everyone! quick authors note here, iāve set up a discord server for everyone to join! iāve had it a while but wasnāt totally sure what to do with it, thereās some premium content for premium subscribers in there, but i figure itād be real sweet if we could make it a lil community for musicians, musicy people, normal people, not so normal people, and everyone else.
good evening everyone, big apology for this weeks review being late! someone missed their train home and had to take 4 buses and got back at 3am cus theyāre dumb as bricks. that someone, is me. anywho, hereās this weeks review! and donāt worry, iām making up for it by landing a hot banger on your lap. this is nearly daffodils by the absolute g o a t sā - english teacher, who rule and you should be listening to you heard it here first.
this song has some momentssss that absolutely come in by way of kicking the door open, setting a boot on chair next to you, tipping their hat and saying howdy. pay close attention to the way the riff comes through in the main chorus e.g. at 2.38, it sits above the rhythmic and aggressive activity that has been bulding and warbling through the song, and just serves to kick it into high gear. you can see another great example of this in the final chorus, which is also my favourite moment of the whole song, where the final message lyrically is laid out while the a and b sections work their way through. that massive held note of the āyou can lead water to the daffodills but you canāt make them drinkā is such a banging lyric, and itās delivered after having laid so much groundwork in such a short space of time itās honestly inspiring.
im not gonna lie to you, iāve got nothing, this is such a banger through and through
i had the coolest english teachers actually, one was an absolute briber too sheād give out percy pigs if you got things right and she absolutely ruled. and i had this other one who would go through the news and be like hereās why this is spin, hereās the biases, hereās why this is an ad, it was so good. shout out to english teachers, everyone of them rules so far as iāve seen which is all of them iām sure.
this band reminds me of a much more energetic version of sorry, who also aboslutely rule and you should be listening to. youāve got the sultry vocals that occaisonally step up a gear, youāve got the really groovy and intricate drum and rhythmn sections and youāve got a light sprinkling of aggresive guiat that all comes together into a really tight package of indie music that i absolutely love.
you should listen to more english teacher. english teacher are popping off and for good reason. i saw them once at a festival and was instantly like āohā because they are shit hot and you need to listen to more of their music, so get on it.

you know when a song drops and it has a kind of timeless quality? this song has that. it has that so bad, that chorus is just one of the all time greats and thatās all that needs to be said.
this sounds like the soundtrack i need to have playing over the helicopter shot panning over an italian villa in my 1960ās spy movie

another absolutely timeless track that just makes it into an all timer for me, and one that i am whistling all day long
