new music from my first time with their song wind up merchant, a groovy indie rock songg

genre: rock / indie
release date: 03/10/23
runtime: 2:35
video: yes :)

okay hands up everyone here who wants something rough and ready and a whole lot of fun. yes, i’m obviously talking about this weeks song, why what did you think i meant? aye, yeah, that’s what they call it is it. very good. so wind up merchat by my first time, the band, not the harrowing experience is a hot and bouncy indie rock track with lots going on. from furious little riffs to killer vocals, i enjoyed it a lot and i sure hope you did too.

this song brings a lottttt of charm and wit in it’s hip holsters and when it starts firing it is shooting from that same hip. the character of the vocals, the endless amounts of energy and personality are so much fun. i want to sing along to this thing from the very first verse, even though i have no idea what the lyrics are, and that rules. the ‘we should’ stick em in the navy’ lyric was jokes btw. i also really enjoyed the really furious energy on display here, the main riff and really heavy drums do such a job of making this things go and go hard. i can tell you know the gigs these guys play would be fierce. the choice addition of the synths in the latter bit of the song do such a great job of elevating that energy and keeping the track from getting stale, and it stays just long enough to say what it wants to say and then gets the hell out of there.

i wish this song would lean into it’s instrumentation a bit more. there’s a tonn going on that tells me that this is a band that knows how to write riffs and good songs, but as short and sweet as this is it could’ve used a bit more of an instrumental moment.

im tinklin on the piano being all spookyyyyy 👻

this song sits easily at the confluence of a whole ton of different influences, but i think they’re doing their own thing. you’ve got the easy going but still kinda knarly indie rock, you’ve got the spoken word personality driven vocal work, you’ve even got some fast and heavy drums. idles, i’m referencing idles, they sound like idles turned down like 15 points of intensity.

this band doesn’t have any more songs, and that’s kinda sad, but they do have my vote for a sick band to keep an eye on, and sometimes that’s enough.
