another reminder of our first in person get togetheraroonie! it’s happening in london this octobr which is soonnnnnnn also! i forgot to add a free option to this which is my bad, i promised it’d have a free option and now it does! tickets are starting to shift so guaruntee your spot and chance to take part by rsvp’ing!

last call on tix for this weeks event! yes that’s right, this is this week! tickets are properly going now, so rsvp now if you want to come because we may have to turn you away!

alrighty everyone let’s get a going on this weeks review because this week we have a grower, yes, a grower, a song which on first listen i was like, hmm that’s okay, and then on a few subsequent listens i sat my butt back in my seat like frank reynolds, bloody nosed and bleary eyed and proclaimed to no one in particular except my teddy - i get it. and i do, this song rocks, and even better, not to brag but, it was sent in by a subscriber. yes that’s right, we’ve done it again folks. the subscription form has yielded another banger. no one believed it was true, they said no way could we do it, no way could more bangers be coming from that form (linked above) but by golly miss molly we done it. slight side note, but it is so sick just like, having a massive database of songs and being like, yes, this is just a huge resource of great music made by great artists here you go, and then sharing it with you all for free. i’m saying, basically, this thing right here that we do each week you and me? it’s special, i think, and it’s neat and it means that when artists like jodi’s raga fire their song bedwetter into my lil spreadheet i then go guys girls theys and any other subscriber who is reading, you need to check this out. and you do, by the way, it’s awesome.

from the very first beat of this song you are immediately transported full body and soul into this songs world and that is something that is actually really rare to achieve. the tones, synths and samples of real like and lo fi aesthetics work together so well here it’s amazing. this is only heightened by the moments when the song seems to take a breath - pulling things back before rushing the synths back with the chillhop beat is a great way of showing a lil peak behind the curtain before immersing you back in the world of the song again. those moments of contrast however brief do so much heavy lifting for making the song feel alive and heavy with interesting activity. the moment right at the end where the song goes into halftime is really sick too, a real moment of pulling you even deeper into the songs vaporwave aesthetics. i found myself even whistling the high synth motif that works away in the background of this song. finally i want to talk about the vocals because they’re really really good in this. the simple lyrics when played through the lens of the tones and aesthetic of this song give it a massively dreamlike quality and make them feel a lot more real than if they’d been delivered acoustically.

i think i didn’t quite enjoy how this song didn’t play about more with the half time elements. that was a really cool way to develop the song and it feels like something could’ve really been cooked on and developed with that. something like a half time moment followed by some kind of b section back into that a section would’ve been a really interesting way of developing out into soemthing more significant. alas, we shall have to settle for the song being immaculate instead.

this song feels like what it sounds like to roll around in grass

i’m kinda struggling here a little bit i won’t lie, i’ve hunted through a ton of different songs to get a good comparison. the one i’ve got is a bit rocky and more dramatic, but does a lot of the same ideas in similar ways, and backs it up with a super atmospheric groove that i feel like is justified as a comparison. that said tho, this song is v much doing it’s own thing and i think that’s really really cool.

jodi’s raga more like, great act honestly. okay that’s a much worse band name but! it is true, this act are really onto something. there’s a ton of lofi aesthics, lots of references and steps into other genre’s, some absolutely banging big tracks and a really cohesive sound that you’d spot a mile off if you’d heard it before. i think this is definitely an artist to put a pin in and keep an eye on because they’re one tv show feature away from blowing all the way up and back again.

royel otis / if our love is dead some songs are just too catchy to be heard by mortals, and this is one of them, now if you’ll excuse me those rocks over there look very warm and cosy
