have to confess something. this song one shotted me. well, actually the album did. ive listened to it about 10 times in the last 3 days. it’s so so so so unbelievably good. and then i go look into the artist and oh my gosh. 26K listeners, basically no hype? what on earth is happening. i think, if i’m honest wiht you, we have a live one here. as in, big big massive album that’s gonna go to the moon or whatever, and you’re hearing it here first. one thing i will say though, the whole thing blends together so smoothly and gently and beautifully that listening to it one at a time feels not great. like it is great, the songs are great, but listening like this feels out of step. so i’m encouraging you to not only listen to this song, which you should it’s absolutely stellar, but also. get it in context. go listen to kibo, and this album kwengletaria: ragymuff and this track in particular, shubzonline.
this mix of edm and hip hop? it’s good shit man. it’s good shit. it really works, especially when the tempo of the lyrics and the beat of the track align, it hits so hard to bring all that energy focused into one intense moment. the ability of the song to accelerate and deccelerate almonst at will is so impressive. the half tempo synchopation of the intro verse just deciding at one point it’s dance time is so intesne and fun. and the fact it feels so intentional while also coming out of nowhere is so intense. like they knew exactly what they were doing. which brings me to what i think i really love about this. the intentionality of the whole thing. it feels messy and loose and fun, but there are so many moments within this song where you realise that’s just an illusion. the whole thing is so precisely made and intelligently built.
this song is missing a big f off chorus with a hook that just gets you singing. like the main hook and chorus is great, and it works in this track so well. but it’s not hooky, you know? and without that it doesn’t quite hit the same.
i sort of really miss video games? like i don’t really play them that much these days because i want to focus on like creative stuff like this or other things. and then i feel all itchy when i play them as i’m not doing something productive. but songs like this for some reason they’ve got me wanting to go back to space marine 2 and get my big hammer again.
i’ve honestly been hunting quite a bit to find something to compare this to, and i’m coming up blank. now maybe that’s me being a bit embarressing and not knowing enough music in this vein, but i didn’t find anything. with the exception of this skrillez kendrick remix, which hits a lot of the same energy
so as i was saying. this album man you gotta listen to it. it’s an experience like nothing else i’ve heard in a longggg while. the narrative, the callbacks, the details, the interludes, the features. it’s so so good. there’s so much experimentation and detail, there’s so much energy and killer songwriting. it’s amazing.
