hey gang, so i want to give you a lil peak into my process here on this newsletter, because there actually is a fair bit of method to the madness. there are 3 things i look for in a song before i consider featuring it here, and they’re as follows; 1) they’ve been submitted by a subscriber, 2) they’re genuinely from off the beaten track (think under 50K monthly listeners on spotify, ideally under 10K) and 3) the music makes me feel something. there’s a few sub rules to that too, like i won’t feature an artist twice in the same year, or i won’t feature artists that i find kinda funny because my humour is dumb as hell and doesn’t lend itself to solid music journalism (10k subscribers and i review a 10 hour loop track of some kind) but one thing that kinda bothers me? is when you find an artist that seems to have their shit going on and then realise they have some mad industry contact that gives them access to tons of people and money. i wrote a whole review before this of a song i think is really good, and was like damn dude this is ticking so many boxes. then boom. their parent was like best friends with david freaking bowie. so i moved on, binned the whole thing and went with this song instead and you know what? i’m glad i did because actually, this song slaps and slaps so hard it’ll make your head spin. meet long beard and their song with ryan galloway; posters. it’s delightful and you’re gonna love it.

i’ve genuinely been thinking about the main synth line in this song for like weeks and how good it is. groovy, synchopated, slightly off kilter, and the bit towards the end where the solid bass line drops through it’s groove and gives it an oomph? oh. oh man. it’s hot. it’s so good, and coming off the back of a song that’s been gently building and swelling, it’s real hair on the back of the neck stuff. this also is a song that had me from the first beat. the gentle strumming of the guitar and the whispy vocal do such a great job of leading you into the track. the vocal in this song is absolutely banging btw. the really sparse chorus echoed by a fizzy synth into the almost spoken verses and the treated vocals later on are so great. it’s got such character and personality for a song that really doesn’t say all that much content wise, but says what it wants to say so well.

my only complaint is i’m not listening to a 10 hour mix of that synth line. rest of the song is absolutely banging.

i am not gonna lie with you, i have been boppin and boppin and boppin to this but also i’ve been kinda thinking about it a lot too. the chorus feels like the kind of music you listen to on the bus as it crests a hill and you see twinkling lights of the city in the distance as the night deepends and deepens.

i am kinda struggling to think of a song that is directly in the vein of this. it’s got two very powerful forces going on, with the soft indie energy and the pwoerful electronic energy, like a t4t couple. i’ve hunted for a few tracks and this song boy by kedr livansky is a pretty good one, and i really like it so you’re getting that.

for sure, this artist is really good and i love their work. the album this song is from is great, with tons of that almost mournful, gentle indie on the go, but this song is their newest and honestly? if this is the direction they’re going then they’re gonna blow up so hard your heads gonna spin, and you’ll have read about them here first. wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened either.

ernest rareburg / blimp this song is doing a lot of interesting things with a whole ton of fizzy buzzy elements, and that’s pretty cool to get in on, but when the beat comes in? this song aboslutely goes. also what is that other vocalist saying? i swear they keep saying weiner

n’dehko / lonely at times this sounds like what the weeknd is aiming for, and at times it sounds like entirely it’s own thing, and for most of it’s runtime i’m just bummed out i’m not listening to it on massive speakers
