boo?
you know, today i was out walking home and was like wow, would you look at that. it’s actually kinda bright out! now they say talking about the weather is the death of conversation, but i’m not talking about the weather, i’m talking about this silly little ball spinning around our silly little star and finally, finally for those of us in the northern hemisphere getting around to the point where it’s not so gosh darn dark all the time. hallaleilujiah (sp?). to celebrate, how’s about a song with a smile? in fact, a song with a selection of smiles all round, look at those boys they’re so happy. i think let’s do it. meet proxima panda, and their song musta been a ghost, an easy listening indie track with plenty of bright energy to go around.

well first off, this is a song that just really feels good you know? between the driving beat, nonchalant guitar riffs complete with space and flair and of course, the plethora of sliding grooves. it’s like someone distilled the perfect summery song details and then poured those bad boys right in there. the chorus after ~1:30 does a lot to bring some swing and energy to this, and the introduction of an electronic organ and brass give just that little bit extra pop to land this track.
the vocal work in this is like, so, so, so close to perfect it’s almost annoying. don’t get me wrong, super strong performance from a v competent vocalist, but between some of the mix, the tone of the vocalist and the lack of extra vocalisations you get in studio recordings (your oohs, your aahs, etc) it just feels ever so slightly flat and empty rather than popping with the energy found elsewhere in the song.
i want to be in a park in the sun listening to this
it’s giving parquet courts and i’m glad that it is because that’s what i want right now.
yes! definitely, this is a band with a lot going on and it is all good. one big whole hearted seal of endorsement from me yessiree. it’s all dripping with that positive optimistic fun energy and i love that.

about once a month i listen to jockstrap and go damn they’re so good why don’t i listen to them more? and then don’t listen to them more, and honestly? that’s on me. jockstrap supremacy people.

weird and moody with a touch of glitchy textures set the scene for this indie song complete with a lil bit of the ol microsoft sam as it builds and builds and builds

really whistful and happy little tune complete with a banging lil gorillaz esque hook
