so, fun fact i didn't know before writing this review. you see that picture up above? with the play button on it? well, turns out that photo was done by a friend of mine! so taking a moment to shamelessly plug nathan magee (@papertreees on instagram) whose photography work i've adored for years. it's some real trippy stuff, with great use of all kinds of cool techniques and nathan if you're reading, keep smashing it my dude.
speaking of smashing it, this weeks song absolutely does. allow me to introduce some days by quinn, a deceptively catchy and really sick pop tune.

what i liked! :)
the vocal work here is a cut above. between the fries and almost spoken tone to it, all of the lyrics are delivered with sincerity and a sense of the vocalist being right in front of you. that's all backed up with some a* production too, really getting the detail on those vocal moments. the hooks in the chorus are really great too. on my first listen i wasn't sold on them but by the time the song had finished there i was, whistling the tune away like a chump.
what i didn’t like :(
musically speaking there was a lot of good ideas on display but at no point did i really think things had come together to make a really compelling musical backdrop for the excellent vocals. there are some good synths and big 80s style drum pads but melodically it was a bit lackluster and didn't quite gel to make a banger. i think if the song was a touch faster it might've come together better.

this song is giving a lot of maisie peters actually, maybe a bit more synthpop but the ernestness and talent is there imo
should you listen to more?
this is an artist that's very much finding their feet, so a lot of their other music doesn't hit the same genre and tone that this one does. that said, the great vocal work and such is all there! click the button below to check it out!
