man itβs good to be back. thank you everyone for your patience while i worked through all those issues. i am pleased as punch to announce a single song review is going stronger than ever! figured letβs celebrate by picking out a banger from the archive of submitted songs, how about that for an idea? well, good thing we have one right here. meet sofy. sofy, the gang, and the track of course, is called wishbone. itβs a big tune, a big powerful incredible tune that i really dig, and i think you will too!
this song has a lot going on, all of which i think works so well as a cohesive whole. letβs take a look at the vocals, because they really dominate this track. first off, the performance is exemplary. whethere thatβs expressing some really personal and intimate moments in the first verse, or absolutely belting it towards the end thereβs not a second of this that feels fake or forced. itβs all the kind of performance that makes the song feel real. so guess what they do. they take that performane and layer on so much fun backing vocals, with bits of accent and energy that really take it to another level. the amount of melody in this track are also a joy to behold. every instrument is firing on all cylindars and doing their own thing. thankfully, itβs all in a way and at a pace that works together to make more than the sum of itβs parts. i really really love the guitar riff in the closing few seconds, that really stood out and itβs such a nice moment at the end of the track. oh, and then the actual closer, with the kitchen sink approach of how many instruments would you like, yes. big fan, love that.
i donβt really have a lot to say on this one. the song is solid all the way through, and itβs got a lot to get through in just a few minutes which it absolutely does. only thing iβd throw 10p on top of is that i thought the hook in the chorus didnβt quite get my by the ear and take me to town. itβs good and i did find myself whistling it, but not obsessing over it unfortunately.
iβll take my string quartet and go home will i
although they arenβt at the same level of overwhelming production as this, where this is a bit more low key. i have been utterly obsessed with egoism lately, and i think you will be too. very much in the same realm i think.
so fun fact this song breaks the rules slightly, in that this artist is motoring into places we usually donβt tred foot in. by that i mean, they get streams. and they are growing growing growing. however, theyβre also a subscriber and submitted, so here we are. where is here you ask? why, standing at the door, opening it widely and yelling to anyone who will listen; why are we not already streaming these guys all day every day. that, dear reader, is the big question.
or better yet, reply to this email! what did you think of this song?
