we are, i am so excited to say, once again finding and enjoying an absolute banger from your favourite place and mine. thatโs right, the database. thank you again to everyone who submits, and especaially to sunday best who wrote this weeks song! i wanted something a bit heavy for this week, and boy did these guys deliver. so come one come all, and enjoy ghost by sunday best!
this song is really cool. it takes a bit of guts to write a song like this, as itโs a real commit to the bit kind of thing. the tight tight rhythmic riff and drum pattern is utterly locked in. itโs really cool and it produces a really fun effect where the vocals sort of soar above the whole song. this separates them out in a way that lets you completely focus in on one part of the song vs another depending on whatโs leading. it also takes a fair amount of great songwriting to produce such variety and innovation on the riffs and ideas. itโs really slick and i salute them for it! it also makes when the song really breaks for cover with the soloโs itโs really rewarding.
i donโt have a complaint but i do have a request. i really enjoyed the moments where the backing vocals really harmonised with this. i felt like the instrumentation and musicality of this was great but also so all encompassing that the vocals got quite lost. if the vocals had a bit more going on and hanging out, i think those aspects wouldโve been a lot stronger in competition with the musicianship.
gonna start clapping this out on the 1 and 3
the song this one had me thinking of more and more the more i listened, was in waves by trivium. it does a lot of the same things, especially that really rhythmic and groovy stilted way of presenting itself. but unlike that song, this song does what i really love, which is laying that kind of rhythmic idea up and working it until it hits a point where all the tension has built up, and then boom boom weโre off to the races. breaking that whole thing out and going for a more straight fast beat. it feels like youโve earned it.
yeah this is a really cool band. theyโre really quite raw in a few of their older tracks, but that absolutely killer songwriting and creativity shines through start to finish. this is for sure a more polished direction for them, and it works a bit better than their older stuff, but their older stuff has a lot going for it too.
or better yet, reply to this email! what did you think of this song?
