this song occupies an interesting, storied and frankly, unenviable position in my life at the moment. unenviable of course, because nobody envies the poor people next to me or near me. above me or below me. orbiting in my near vicinity or on a close fly by orbit to gain a gravity assist for deep space missions with a high fuel efficiency. you see, this is a song that i, dear reader, am whistling. yes you see, i’m whistling it after i listen to it. and long after i listen to it too. i don’t know why, i don’t know exactly why it’s so gosh darn catchty, but here i am, whistling. so that’s where we’re going, like explorers in a submarine or in a hot air balloon or on a bus maybe. on a journey of discovery into the depths of this song, rollercoaster by the venus children, kindly sent in by the venus children, featuring the venus children. come along then!
now, why is this song so gosh darn catchy. we’ll i’ll tell you why, it’s because the main vocal hook repeats over and over and over and over and over. and what do we know about repition? it legitimises, yes that’s right, it legitimises. except, it’s not that easy is it. you can’t just say the same thing over and over and then some watery bint hands you a scimitar. no of course not, you need to set the scene! it’s all about the acoutremont. this song has acoutremont in spades let me tell you. there’s a lot going on frankly, whether it’s that stilted half tempo groove with a noodly and fun bass line, or the massive chords roaring like a lion over the top of everthying. the guitar licks that accent all of the vocal lines do a lot to give this song a sense of scale that matches it’s ambition. it’s in this context that that glorious hook hangs out and gets to know you. there’s so much variety and interest at play that it provides a context in which a bit of reptition feels like something you want to anchor yourself.
i think if this song had, ironically, a bit more of a musical hook and grounding it would’ve felt a bit more cohesive. a bit of a b to match the a kind of thing. there’s a lot of energy in the musicianship and a ton of skill, but at times that strayed from being expressive into a world of incoherence almost. i think that was the wrong lane to lean down, instead, i think a doubling down on a bit of cohesion would’ve helped a little bit more.
what kind of oil you lovable hunk
okay, rogue one here, but i stand by it as it is definitely in my whistle list, but this song don’t look at the dj by bickle, which is more an electronic dancey number. that said, it does a lot of the cool stuff this song does, and does so pretty well, and i whistle it all the time. so, that one. banger too tbh
first of all, thank you to this band for submitting this song. second of all, best of luck on releasing your second song because i for one will be listening, when it releases. dunno when that’s going to be, but looking forward to it because this song was a b o p in my not so humble opinion. for the rest of you, like share and subscribe the venus children you have been told.
or better yet, reply to this email! what did you think of this song?

Every morning, financial news follows the same script. Headlines panic, coverage catastrophises, and somewhere inside the noise is the story that actually matters — the one that tells you where the opportunity sits, not just where the fear is pointing.
Most sources have stopped looking. The alarm is easier to sell.
The Daily Upside was created by Wall Street insiders for readers who crave real insight over recycled anxiety. Five minutes of global business and finance, before the noise sets the agenda — just the facts, context, and analysis your decisions need.
