this weeks song goes out in particular to the haters, and by haters i mean me because i hate when things get stale here so we’re taking a big ol blowhorn and we’re blowing away the cobwebs. this week, it’s getting rough wet and wild, we’re feeling slippy, get the baby oil out and get weird. it’s a bit of black metal, it’s a bit of folk metal, it’s a bit much all these metal sub genres don’t you tihnk. anyway, this song is really banging and hiding some really big moments. so get your violin arm ready, wind it up and tight, and let’s blow this popcicle stand.

what i like

what i like

this song is a really great example of what it’s like to take in a really really deep breath, and then while holding your breath, take in more air. it just feels like it grows and grows and grows in intensity and refuses to chill tf out. when you first hear the violin for example, you think ahh man yeah this has something goign for it, but before long that violin is setting the tone for the drums. then oh man, not only that but the screams come in over the top, and then the guitar riffs over the top of that. it’s just escalation after escalation and being able to do that without the song getting tedious or turning into a slog is really really impressive. also being able to do that without everytihng devolving into a sludge is really well done. at no point do you feel like this song gets bogged down even in it’s slower moments because of all of the heavy rhythmic activity and the often sudden returns to high velocity form. it’s a song that gives and gives and gives some more.

what i don't like

what i don’t like

for all of the intense moment to moment energy of this, it sure does take a while to get up to speed. the first few minutes of this feel like the worst part but kind of only in hindisght because once you’ve lsitened to it you learn what they had hiding in the tank.
