been finding myself in a big and powerful anti hustle culture moment lately, dunno if anyone else is like this lately. i’m tired of it all, and really just want to go through life a little less oh god what if i don’t do all of the things and instead be a bit more hey y’know what, let’s do whatever. i think it’s a bit healthier honestly, and then when this song came along into my life. blasted that exact same message into my brain with more grace and artistry in it’s little finger than i have in my body times about 5. here’s an absolute top tier banger for you all, it’s doing things we didn’t even know we could do, and it’s beautiful. meet kyle simbwa, and his track person.
this song does such a good job at building tension. from the very first moments you’re awash in tons of tiny details that are just delicious. details like the little stop start moment off the first beat or the droning wailing guitar lurking in the background. the strings, the backing vocals, the list goes on and on. everything here is done so well and does such a great job at making the song feel like something else is going on. this lays the ground of course for the massive b section that gomes in towards the back half, with a second vocalist, even more strings and detail. this section is also a great instance of some of my favourite songwriting; when the dynamic between vocalist and music start to play off each other. there’s a blink and you miss it moment where the vocalist speeds up her flow and the music responds to that with extra tempo on the backing track and it happens so quick. the effect is to feel like by just speaking that second vocalist is taking total control of the song and it’s amazing.
i have this complaint on a few songs on here, and i have it here which is this song spends a lot of it’s runtime building up tons of tension, but doesn’t really do anything with it. which is grand honestly, it doesn’t need to, but it’d be neat if it did that’s all.
you ebver feel like something is like, speaking to you sometimes when it hits you with exactly the thing you were thinking but you thought it first but you also didn’t because they didn’t record the song just now
this song got me thinking about this track here is where which is an absolute banger from there will be fireworks. it’s super old, but it always made me feel that same tension and energy that i love.
this artist is so versatile, they’ve got a lot going on. some high tempo rnb beats, some indie rock stuff, some more introspective activity. it’s all happening here and y’know what? it all rules, shout out kyle simbwa, this album rules.
