working through the back log of song submissions! let me tell you gang, there are some real bangers in there. it’s a real goldmine, both for findings songs that probs wouldn’t get a look in anywhere else, but also getting yourself lost in a wee journey of music discovery and going off and finding tons of new stuff. this song did that for me this week, and also is really really good. it’s from a small artist but one who is absolutely hustling, with over 100k streams. real impressive. it’s a gentle but steady builder of a song, giving us a good time processing out all those emotions.

what i like

what i like

this song does such a great job of escalation. the pacing is just absolutely on point, and at no point do you think to yourself ohh man this is dragging a bit becuase melodically or tonally there’s always something working it’s way in and dialling things up a notch. whether that’s the strings or the electric guitar, the big ol bass drums or even the vocals. it’s really impressive how this song just goes and goes. the vocal performance underpinning this is also really impressive. tons of tone and just a great rather distinct voice make the whole performance feel real and emotional.

what i don't like

what i don’t like

production wise this song is real close but no cigar. at times you can almost feel the midi instruments, and at other times the mix just doesn’t quite hold it all together with some stuff getting lost or going for a wander.

for fans of

my drunk opinion

this song really sent me on a little nostalgia trip and had me right back in my shoes as a babyfaced 18 year old discovering this absolute banger - full circle by half moon run.

should you listen to more

this is another debut, but a pretty good one at that! it’s got some really impressive stufff going on and a lot of promise for future work. i think a bit of effort behind it in the production lane of things would have this artist absolutely shining.
