😄 elaine malone / moontread review!
how big can you go?
hello! i’m back, and boy have i been busy. don’t worry, though i will be telling you all about prima vera 23, and all the insane acts you need to check out (aside from like, the obvious ones). we’ll be doing that this week alongside a ton of new content landing including new playlists, a (very late) premium issue and of course, this weeks song. bear with me as i vibe in post-festival blues with this weeks shoegaze track; moontread by elaine malone.

what i liked! :)
let’s jump straight in, this is a massive track. huge strumming riffs, a slow tempo and tons of vocal work lay out just the largest sound this band can produce. it’s in the details tho that this song stands out from the pack. the subtle vibratto on the main guitar riff, the hidden sounds that only make themselves obvious in the fade out. oh, and the fade out. i loveeeee a good fade out, and keeping one interesting as you float off the ethereal plane is paramount to landing them. this one does it in spades and it’s gorgeous. layer into all of that noise a stunning vocal track that goes out of it’s way to be real, slight imperfections and all and you have something big.
what i didn’t like :(
i think this song is great, it does what it wants to do and it does it well, but (and this may be the super tiredness talking) i found it hard to latch on to this track. i got lost in it’s space, it was away and i didn’t notice a few times the song had ended. i feel like that’s not great, but idk what it could do to change it.
for fans of
i’m going to go with pistol shrimp by hanging valleys. it’s similarly a massive sound and easy to get lost in, but is a lot more down tempo than this. i think the effects are very similar, but the approaches are kinda contrasting and i think that’s kinda interesting. enjoy!
should you listen to more?
okay please go listen to the song my baby’s dead by this artist. it is so good. similarly shoegazey, but solves the ‘couldn’t grab this song’ problem with ease. that’s it, end of review, go listen to that track it’s awesome.
