okay before we begin, i want to say a big thank you again to everyone who checked out the last issue and listened to the song. anytime i push a particularly small artist i always want to take a little peak at their stats before and after. last week was the first time i managed to actually remember to do that, and i was chuffed to bits that artist got a big boost to streams! and they submitted to my database! how cool is that. our impact everyone. anyway, this week we’re doing something a little different. this week, i want to share a song i have loved for a long long time, and it’s been around a long long time. it came out ten, yes, ten years ago. in 2016, which was 10 years ago. scary stuff. anywho, meet enemies. not yours, not mine, ours, the band, they’re called enemies. they’re from a stones throw from where i come from, and this song is a big fave of mine.

what i like

for a song that is so light on vocals, it sure is catchy as hell. i literally have had riffs from this in my head for like 2 weeks. the combination of a tight groove in the rhythm section against washy guitar work that is off in space is such a fun combo, doing so much to set up with this song goes for the moon. having everything tight and groovy lulls you into a false sense of security. then, when the pre-chorus picks it up a notch you get that sense of ohh, this is going somewhere. only to be met with the pre-bridge section around 2:40. all of this gets you ready for the outro of this song, where things go absolutely to the max. it really rules, we get spacey nonsense and it’s heavy and still oh so groovy. what a great time.

what i don’t like

i have one small, sort of inconsequential gripe with this which is the vocal comes in towards the pre-bridge section with a little stylised vocal sneaking in at the side. it’s not my favourite, i don’t think it’s mixed in quite right and i’m not a fan.

this is what it sounds like when my toaster and i dmc

omg remember sleepmakeswaves? another big name in the space, and by space i mean outer

so, as mentioned i’m a big fan of this band, and they have a lot of big tunes. so i encourage you wholeheartedly to go listen to them all again and again. they don’t make music anymore as far as i know, they reformed for a gig in 2023 but that was, i hate to say, 3 years ago. but i just think it’s really fun every now and again to dig out a great act from days gone by.
