more i’ve been listening to
the boys have done it again i dare say, another bop, another banger, another one for your dad to go now this, this, is real music
this is a band that have that razz ma tazz, dive in and see what it’s like i promise you’ll be see what i mean yeehaw
there’s something really to be said about having a big ol aggressive synth just hanging out in your song, kinda like having a big painting in your living room, if you took it away the place would feel kinda empty

i’ve been a little bit obsessed with that new marathon game, i actually used to play the original off a demo cd i got in a magazine and i have noooooo ide awhat it was or what was going on. i died a lot, barely finished the level and then that was all that was on the cd. then id play it again and be like yeah this is cool. utterly, totally, completely not grasping what was happening at like, 7 years old. like a monkey playing with an airplane, just an out of context problem entirely. anyway, the new one is coming out and i’m kinda hype for it msotly for the aesthetic, i think it looks like a billion bucks. it’s a really pretty, interesting aesthetic and i really love it and i can’t really put my finger on why. which brings me to this song, which also has a really neato aesthetic and delivers some really cool ideas in a neat little package reminding me of my childhood in a way that makes me feel something inside. so, i’m reviewing it, and you’re gonna love it. meet gabby start and knapsack, and their song blasé.
this track is a real great one for executing really well the use of ear candy. the sprinkling of a bit of fuzz and distortion on the vocal hook for example is such a clever idea. it just takes what is a genuinely really solid vocal hook, and dialls it up a notch. that’s part of what seperates good songs from great ones, and this one crosses that line for me. i genuinely stopped in the street when i heard it and was like yo, this is some fun and exciting energy going on. i also really love the contrast between the really articulate and electronic elements in the rhythmn section giving the groove a bit of a robotic feel, coupled with some analgoue indie elements. the fact this then blends it’s way into the vocals does such a great job of just reconciling all the ideas at play. for exmaples, just before that soaring chorus hook you get a little blink and you miss it blip of some spoken audio. it just makes the track feel the little bit more detailed and alive. this amount of attention to detail just gives the song so much energy and
i’m actually quite struggling to come up with anything on this one. i think perhaps this song suffers a bit from a lack of dynamics, it’s all at a level, with a bit of a diall up, but we never really get a moment where the song breathes and let’s things exist in contrast with each other. it’s got a sense of go go go, and that’s all good. without somthing to show how fast you’re going though it can start to feel a little flat.
this song sounds what i imagine dunking your head in a bucket of ice water would feel like if you did it in a playstation 1 game
this band reminded me a lotttt of forest children, who i’m seeing in a few weeks and i am very, very excited for how cursed it has the potential to be. i, for one, cannot wait
the album this song is from is a striaght run of bangers and bops from start to finish. i hope you enjoyed reading this review, but honestly, stop what you’re doing and get going onto the artist page and give them a listenarooney. they’re really really worth it.
