using an unsung and not often heard instrument; the helicopter
submit a song / advertise / upgrade / discord
but first, the news
yes that’s right, news time! a short selection of links to all things going on in the music biz:
more i’ve been listening to
massive glorpy groovy movin and choosin dance track, great time all round
even bigger pop tune, massive contender for a pop star blow up right here, especially with tracks like this
and finally an absolutely massive pop tune that makes you feel like the main character, absolutely banging
and i dropped the price on a few!
apologies to everyone hoping to check out my record sale and finding a broken link, consider that one fixed, and speaking of fix i’ve also fixed the prices for these a bit lower, so check ‘em out!

getting into some weird pop music here this week. another solid entry in the very exciting world of pop acts pushing the boat out a bit and trying something different, which is one of my all time fave areas. remember kids, pop music is super duper hard to do. everyones all oh it’s just singing about parties and having an easy beat underneath or whatever, and that’s true, for bad pop music. good pop music, meanwhile, has a lottttt to it and it’s a genre, or a sub genre even, that to my mind needs studied tightly no matter what kind of music you make. so that’s what we’re going to do with this weeks track, antidote by lana love.
kicking things off, the intro to this song is really funny, i love the big inception wahh and the helicopter playing for whatever reason, but i really love how the song landed moving from those really abrasive and fun elements into parts of the track that are used to great effect. the drops with the massive distorted bass swipes bring a sense of drama and excitement to this track that really elevate it. the extra details in this track do a lot to make it fly too. from the additional vocals to the spoken word to the different tones and inflections to the backing vocals harmonising but also experimenting on those main melodic lines give this song a really rich texture. this keeps it engaging and interesting for the whole run time despite playing about with only a handful of elements.
the only issue i have with this song is it never quite lands that big home run hook. without something to really just like squarely get in your brain to sing along to, all the rest of that supporting work falls a little bit flat. you really need something truly diabolical and clear cut to make a pop song like this just land with both feet. unfortunatley as with many pop songs, this song is close but no cigar.
bet it’d be cool as hell to learn the dance to this
this track had a lot of elements pointing me towards self esteem who blew the competition away with her last album, and has released another tour de force a few weeks ago. there’s a lot of similarities from the interesting and interactive pop music to the incorporation of massive production in ways that still feel intimate, but in contrast to this, spends a lot of time focusing on those big hooks.
i really like this artist, and i really commend this track and what they’re doing. pop is hard! i said that at the top and i’ve been saying it for years, but this artist is one of the closest i’ve seen for ages to be right on the cusp of landing something massive. they just need to keep working in this vein, there’s something magic here and i think when they land it we’re goign to be hearing from them a lotttttt.
