more i’ve been listening to

one of those swear i’ve heard it before a million times but this is the first spin types

absolutely lush with sotrytelling and texture, a big old tune as tense and hard hitting as it is out of left field, beautiful

there’s a bit where this singer sings the word stacked in the chorus and it hit me like a bus

great news everyone, we’re back. a whole week has passed did you miss me? i missed you, tell you what i didn’t miss, this weeks submission from the database. oh yes, it’s a goodun. it’s actually from a little while ago but i didn’t want to feature it because it hadn’t dropped yet, and that is not what i’m about. we’re all about getting the streams in and streams up. so a little shuffle here and there and boom, we landed in a place to call home, your inbox, and wherever you’re reading this right now. except, oh no! we’re in trouble, we could really use a…………………… doctor!aha you get it. the songs called doctor it’s pretty good it’s by nineteenth hour they submitted a track you should to let’s gooooo

what i like

i really like this song not only for it’s structure and craft, but for how it made me feel inside when i listened to it. the vocals in particular has that sense of drama and tension that feels real in a way that often feels cheesy but here really lands. that big line at the top of the chorus really hits the spot, it had me whistling the track quite a bit all day today. all the size and energy being generated by that big guitar sound which really carries this and makes it look easy. but those big moments that stand out aren’t the only thing at play, they know exactly what they’re doing with the dynamics of this. big moments feel huge and grandiose only because the frequent quiet moments feel teeny tiny. the big old build into the guitar solo makes everything feel earned and powerful but it’s not even just that. there is such masterful moment to moment writing that everything feels earned, everything feels significant but most importantly everytyhing feels in it’s palce and cohesive.

what i don’t like

i don’t love how this song feels so clean. it lacks a bit of bite at times which mean the heights of where it gets to don’t feel as impactful as they could. i say this with love but it does sometimes feel like it’s going for a sound and an aesthetic that does a slight diservice to the actual tone and execution of the song. by that i mean, that cleanliness at times and almost refusal to lean into something a bit more stylised and interesting let’s it down when the song is almost calling out for it. take the second verse for example. the singer is singing with grit and determination, the rhythmn section is riding along with real restraint, but tonally it all feels like an hd 4k image, all pristine. it doesn’t match what the song is trying to do emotionally, and it let’s it down.

my drunk opinion

now i know what you’re thinking, and no, it’s not based on a doctor who episode. i know, i know, i thought so too, but that one’s called the eleventh hour, and these guys are the nineteenth hour. that’s eight whole hours in between. i’m sure they get it all the time.

my drunk opinion

the children yearn for editors

this feels like both a noticeable step up for this band and a real step in the direction of a really defined sound. the rest of their tracks are grand, there’s plenty to like and enjoy broadly speaking, but this is really really good and much more distinct. i think i was maybe a little harsh on it because actually, it really is a step in the right direction stylistically and to my mind, that’s something artists these days need to be doing. be a bit weird, be a bit odd, do your own thing and craft that own thing into it’s own thing and it’s own thing beyond that. and that’s what this band are starting to do, steadily, and i really rate that.
