hello everyone, i thought today would be a good day to let you all know we crossed a big milestone! i’ve had over 1000 songs submitted to be featured in this here newsletter! which is insane! that’s so many!!! that’s not individual artists, but it is close, sometimes some of you chuck a few songs in there which is fine honestly. i just wanted to share that because the submission form has been live less than a year, meaning song submissions have been comign in at a rate of like, 3 or 4 a day which is nuts. i’m working at the minute on a better way for those to all be surfaced because there are some absolute bangers in there, but in the meantime, i’ve got a live one for you. meet psychotic villager (not your neighbour, probably) who are really really cool and their song i will keep on dreaming was submitted, listened to and absolutely adored over here on a single song review, so

i love how driving this song is. also love a wee count in on the drum sticks, always fun to hear! and when it starts it picks a tempo and just goes for it. it’s driving and intense and somehow manages to build and build and build. i really love how this song manages to just keep pulling melodies out of the hat that all work together. it feels a little bit like a dovetail really regularly as the held vocal melodies, guitar riffs and slide guitar just land and land. plus the way so often the melodies hand off to each other, with one instrument completing a phrase is really neat. it’s genuinely something you songwriters out there should be paying attention to because it brings the song to life in a way just playing that one melody on one instrument wouldn’t be able to handle. i also loveeeee the use of instruments to produce a melodic drone under the main performance of this. the organ, strumming guitar, gang vocals and even some of the drum work with it’s deep bassy reverb does a great job of making this song feel full. finally of course there’s the voice of this vocalist, who is absolutely killing it. bringing both a ton of aforementioned melody but also a deeply personal performance that is kinda haunting while holding on to a bit of a mischevious and light hearted quality. it’s impressive to wrap all of that in 3 minutes 53 seconds but they nailed it!

i feel like this song does a thing where it approaches a moment of apex, bringing something really to a height melodically and emotionally especially with the back vocals. it just feels like it doesn’t quite tip over into something that seems like a payoff.

woah ohh bros we won! we won again! double woah ohs two weeks in a row let’s goooooo woah ohhhhhhhhh

you know who i couldn’t escape thinking of when i was listening to this? foster the people. whatever happened to them. nothing apparently, they’re still releasing music and having a good time god bless. but this song is really giving a bit of that alt indie folk goodness without leaning too far into i brew my own mead.

this artist is sickkkkkk and they have a ton of really good tracks on the go. a few different energies and vibes are being played about with here and all of it is really good. their other big song, all the money i need, is a real tune with a total opposite energy to this, all pensive and introspective. all of it is really good and honestly they deserve a tonnnn more listeners, so readers, get to it.
