introducing: musician ads!
dunno about you but i’ve been a busy bee. eagle eyed among you will have spotted the launch of subscriber preferences last week (which you can access here btw), this week, another biggie; musician ads. keeping this thing going is nottttt cheap or easy let me tell you so when the advertisers you see at the top of these come a knockin, i be, well, being knocked. i want to change that, and make more of what you see here in line with the vision i had for this. so starting today, musicians can start buying ad slots in this newsletter. but not for music, that is and will always be free. instead, for all the things around making music that artists so often need support getting in front of people. specifically, gigs, musician classifieds and physical releases. check them out:

i think…. we are back! well, i’ve no way of telling until i send this out, so here goes. let’s see what happens. hello and welcome back, we have a lovely new track to listen to, and i think that’s worth landing in your inbox. this week, a dancey track with a bit of spoken word rap sort of stuff. it’s vibey and spacey and pretty neat, so meet real lies and their song a land beyond!
this song absolutely goes despite not reallyyyyy feeling like it. the beat doesn’t really let up and the groove riding around on it is just happening. there’s a lot of high energy and fun stuff happening. i think contrasting that with these washed out synths that are just pulsing along is what makes it work so much musically. on top of that, the details like the gentle scratching noise or the backing vocals have so much space to work within. it’s really really cool. using all of that like a billboard to stand in front of, i really dig these lyrics. the performance has that feeling of being really really real and carrying some hefty weight. it’s a great time and when they echo that with the singing vocals? good stuff. very good stuff.
i sort of think this song just needs a bit of a b section. like a little area where it like drops off the stuff it’s doing and hangs out in some development or what it’s got going on. instead, it’s a lot of repetition of exactly the same think, which somewhat goes with the territory to be fair. it would really make the drop that comes in around 2:18 really hit a bit harder.
yeah man that’s crazy you’re like an actual dj that’s mad
i know i know i know, they sound like the streets. i know okay. they do, kinda, but the thing is i kind of, don’t really like the streets? like i think that one album is pretty good, but by and large, i think they’re kinda okay. a much better comparison if i do say so myself, is antony szmierek, who is very, very good.
i dare say we have a live one here. i dare say so indeed. lots of really cool and interesting tracks on the go, lots of energy and heart. and i for one am really into it all!
