i had a really fun week last week! got to hear lots of music and see lots of friends and do all sorts. one thing i did as part of that, was attend the heavy music awards which i hadn’t been to before. let me tell you gang, it is so good to be listening to rock and metal music again. i really fell off with it for some reason, and i’m kinda mad at myself. there’s so much good stuff out there that’s completely passed me by or i’ve been only paying a cursory interest in because i’m a dumbo. thankfully, i’m happy to share i v much am back on the horse, and maybe that’s led to a little bit of bias here, but when this band submitted their song the other week i was like oooo maybe i’ll feature it. then i listened on and lemme tell you, it’s a banger, it’s a bop, it’s great and i’m v happy to have found it long with you all, right here on a single song review . com! so artists and musicians, what are you waiting for? submit your tracks! they really do get featured, like this one! and for the rest of us…

there are so many little elements in this song that really make it. like the bleeped out moment in the breakdown, the extra vocal work, the woah ohhh section, it’s all banging and i love it. it’s also skating along on that line between being abrasive and angery and having a sense of melody and drama. it’s a tricky line to work, but these dudes do it with style. all of the vocals feel bursting with personality, all of the sections feel cohesive but working together, nothing feels blocky. the laughter in particular in the second verse is so good, it’s got such drama in it. i also really love how the song kind of degenerates through the first half or so, slowly getting slower and heavier and more oppressive to really lower itself down into the breakdown rather than just being like oh it’s breakdown time btw. it’s even got a wee hook guitar riff that does a great job of just hanging out and making the song feel that bit more melodic rather than being a tacky addition, and when those riffs echo the vocal melodies it glues everything together nicely. top work!

the only part in this that didn’t feel totally earned was the come up out of the bridge. it should in my opinion have been a bit more considered and developed than it was, which would’ve really bookended the breakdown. i love how the breakdown is an extension of the earlier parts of the song, and giving the path out of it something more substantive would’ve made the outro with the woah ohs feel a lot more earned rather than being a bit bolted on which nothing else really is.

woahhh ohhhhhhhhh

woah ohhhhhh

dude i love a woah oh, i be woahhhinnnn and ohhhhhhin, gimmie one of those and i’m away!

there are, of course, a ton of bands doing sounds like this, and it’s important to compare these guys to a band doing a similar thing otherwise it’s kinda not fair. honestly, i didn’t manage to find a huge amount of bands doing exactly what they’re doing, which is good! the nuances are developing the sound in a new way, but i thought beartooth are in a similar vein.

unfortunately, or, fortunately, we are catching this band righttttttt at the start of their career, meaning. they ain’t got no songs, yet! nada, zilch, none of the above i’m afraid. but y’know what if this is the kind of song they’re putting out then i for one cannot wait for them to drop more because this song is top tier. it’s got tons of creativity and fun ideas and the kinds of things that a band puts in their work when they’re super stoked to be writing and making music, and if they keep that up they’ll drop some absolute bangers.

laundry day / why is everyone a dj? okay, i like this song, it’s really cool, but also i think beinga dj makes you a better musician, so maybe that’s why?

hard life / tears it’s house-y, it’s hip hop-y, it’s got some weird things going on and they’re all quite cool, good on ‘em!
